A lot of patients want to know if they can use the same bottle of drops on their second eye undergoing cataract surgery. The best practice is to use a new bottle of each drop on the second eye. Recently an FDA panel reviewed this policy and reconfirmed that each eye should have separate, new drops. Yes, this costs more money. But it just isn't worth the risk of an infection after surgery from contaminated drops. Believe me, if your eye suffered an infection after surgery, the costs involved with treating it would become a moot point. So for now, new drops for each eye undergoing cataract surgery.
